Textiles are very important to the Kuba. Nearly all the adult members of society are involved in cloth production. The raffia used for the cloth is made from fiber taken from raffia palm leaves which must be stripped to narrow fibres. It is then woven on a loom by the Kuba men and subsequently beaten with a pounder to soften the cloth. Women are responsible for the detailed work including the embroidery, patchwork, edgings and possibly any tie-dyeing. These cloths are worn as overskirts, called ntshack if worn by a woman and mapel if worn by a man. They are worn around the waist over a longer underskirt and secured by a belt. They are worn for important ceremonies and for dancing. They have a specific meaning when worn at funerals because raffia is a symbol of security and continuity for the Kuba, linking the living to each other as well as to the deceased. They may also be commissioned by a chief for a specific ceremonial occasion. The best weavers may be employed for up to a year to create the necessary cloth, during which time the chief will feed, house and keep them.

INSPECTIONS & DAMAGES
All items are carefully inspected prior to shipment, but damages do happen. Please thoroughly inspect all items and if a damage has occurred, please provide detailed images to firstname.lastname@example.org within 48 hours of delivery. Upon delivery, if you notice damages immediately, please refuse the delivery and contact email@example.com. Our team will promptly work on a replacement. Please know that damage claims can take some time to resolve, we appreciate your patience.
Many of our items are handmade and/or vintage, meaning they are one of a kind and have imperfections that make each item unique and beautiful. We inspect our items thoroughly and the condition is already reflected in the price.
We update our website with the estimated lead time and shipping time frames as often as possible. Due to high demand or unexpected production delays, the estimated lead time is subject to change. Please note, lead times do not include shipping times. Backorder dates are also subject to change.

Some items including furniture are shipped directly by our vendor and will be delivered by a third party delivery company. Most pieces ship within 3-4 weeks of order receipt. Transit typically takes 7-10 business days but delays do happen and are often out of our control. Please be aware that there is a fee associated with redelivery. Costs will vary.

Once you purchase a piece from this collection, you will receive a confirmation email and our delivery company will reach out to schedule all delivery services. Shipping costs will vary based upon the weight and customization of the piece, the quantity purchased and the location in which the piece(s) is being delivered. Shipping costs reflect white glove delivery service, which includes in-home placing of the piece in the room of your choice, assembly of the piece and disposal of all packaging. It is your responsibility to inspect your items upon delivery for any damages. Neither House of Nomad nor Das Wolfe will be held responsible for any damages after the item has left the shop/warehouse.

Local Pickup: If you live in Charlotte, NC and would like to pick up your item, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to coordinate a date/time for transport. Please note: You will be responsible for bringing your own transport vehicle, loading the piece into your vehicle, and packaging it accordingly. Neither House of Nomad nor Das Wolfe are responsible for any damages made to the piece during local pickup and no returns will be allowed once you have moved the piece(s).
